Like it's better known relative Tai Chi, Qi Gong (sometimes spelled Chi Kung) is an ancient Chinese mindfulness and health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention.
Qi Gong combines two Chinese ideas- Qi, which translates as 'life force' or 'vital-energy' and Gong meaning an accomplishment or skill, cultivated through steady practice. Qi Gong is thus the art of cultivating energy, and is practiced for health maintenance, healing and enhancing one's sense of well being.
The gentle yet powerful movements of Qi Gong can reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality, and boost the immune system. Studies have shown it to be effective in improving quality of life as well as aiding cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive functions.
Qi Gong's great appeal is that everyone can benefit, regardless of ability, age, belief system or life circumstances.
